"Always act like you're wearing and invisible crown."
Happy Tuesday sewing loves! I know many of you are wondering why I haven't posted anything new in a couple of weeks especially considering the great response we received regarding our new digs. Well let me just say that although the website was live we still had a few things we were working on during that first initial week so I didn't have very much time to work in the studio. Once we finished those projects on the website I did manage to sew a few pieces but I decided to hold off posting them in light of the social climate and heaviness I felt as a result of recent events. The problem is knowing when and how to return to business as usual when your heart continues to hurt. Unfortunately I haven't come up with an exact answer to that but decided that sometimes the best way to deal with pain is to figure out how to become a part of the solution and by working your gift in a way that may bring relief to not only yourself but others that are feeling the same heaviness.
So this weekend after speaking with a few friends about some ideas I believe would be positive for the community I decided it was also time to get back to work doing what I do. Needless to say I ended up having a very full weekend including finishing up some home decorating projects, having my mom fly in for the weekend and spending some much needed alone time with my hubby. I know it's only been two weeks since my parents and daughter have been gone but boy oh boy have I missed them. So having her here with me for a few days has been really awesome.
Outside of having my mom fly out for a couple of days to hang out the next best thing to happen this weekend was a grown-up date night with my hubby. This past Friday my husband and I attended a fabulous 70th birthday celebration for a special family friend in Pasadena California where I grew up. Considering how busy we both are having the opportunity to get dressed up and spend time with one another (yes even at a party) is a rare treat. That being said I decided to go all out and make something that would be perfect for the celebration yet sexy enough for my hubby. Of course I have several things in my closet I could have worn that evening but I decided to get in my studio and knock something out late Thursday night. I'm not sure what I was thinking considering I worked a full 11 hours earlier that day but I felt my sewing machine calling me so I gave it a shot. I decided to make a really simple strapless white dress using some of the 2 way fabulous white denim I used for my two previous projects. Now I know you're thinking denim REALLY! Well all I can say is I had an idea, decided to give it a go and it WORKED! I have to say I love how this simple little dress turned out and I plan on making several variations of this pattern real soon!
Pattern: Butterick 4443 Please note that I added pockets to my version of the strapless dress. I LOVE pockets!LOL
Fabric used: 2-way stretch denim from previous off shoulder looks. (See Home Page)
