"Never wear shapeless clothes to hide your body and never bend your head! Always hold it high! Look the world straight in the eye and know you are beautiful."

Hello Lovelies! Well here we are on this wonderful Wednesday afternoon with half of the work week already gone. I’m still working on getting my creative mojo in check and working on several ideas I have floating around in my head! You will be happy to know that in the midst of all my planning I was able to carve out some time to make a short little video. Since I’m constantly receiving emails and request regarding where I shop for fabric I decided to shoot a little video of some of my favorite fabric stores in the downtown Los Angeles area. I plan to share it with you this Friday pending I complete the necessary editing. My hope is that you enjoy watching it as much as I've enjoyed piecing it together and that you consider it a helpful reference for fabric shopping in the downtown area.
Now let’s move on to why I decided to create the look I’m sharing with you today! So this past weekend after clearing my head of all the creative chaos I was experiencing I decided to make another dress using the Bishop Sleeve pattern I demonstrated in one of my DIY videos. If you recall several weeks ago I made a dress inspired by one of the sisters from the gospel singing group Mary Mary. Well since I hadn’t had enough of this particular dress pattern yet I decided to give it another go! This time I used a striped knit fabric I purchased from Michael Levine’s the Loft during one of my recent shopping trips. When I saw this particular fabric I absolutely fell in love with it! While the colors and texture is definitely something I would wear during the fall or cooler months especially in California that didn’t stop me from cutting into it as soon as I had the chance.
I must share that getting the pattern of the stripes to line up perfectly was a BEAST! Not to mention I had to decide which direction I wanted the layout of the stripes to flow. Although I wanted the main body of the dress to be horizontal I knew I wanted the sleeves to be vertical without them being matchy matchy so to speak. If that makes any sense! Everything worked out perfect with the dress but I am considering modifying the sleeves just a tad in order to achieve the distinction in the pattern flow that I wanted. Overall I am pleased with the way things turned out and I hope you enjoy the direction I decided to take with this particular dress. Lastly I’m giving a BIG shout out to my wonderful photographer Jerome Ming Lee for always being patient with me and taking such great shots of my wears. Stay tuned for the fabric shopping guide video later this week and remember when all else fails simply “WILL YOURSELF TO HAVE A GREAT DAY ANYWAY!”
Hugs
