"Design is Thinking Made Visual"
~Saul Bass~
Okay so my son is back in school, my daughter is away at college, the patterns are almost ready for release and the first items for sale are being worked on now! WHEW that’s a lot but OHHHHH what a wonderful day in the My Daily Threadz neighborhood it is! LOL Yes sewing family I’m so excited about the way things are going that I feel like I’m going to burst! Of course it’s a lot of work and it sometimes feels a little overwhelming but I try to stay focused and think about how fabulous the end result will be. I have to say I think you’re really going to enjoy what we’ve put together and I have no doubt that no matter your size or skill level you will be able to pull these styles off. I promise to keep you all posted with the progress of the patterns which will be released first and the first couple of items for sale soon thereafter. In the meantime let’s go ahead and jump right into the look being featured in today’s post.
I’ve had this fabulous Poly Crepe fabric from Angel Textiles for several months now and I’ve been anxiously waiting to cut into it. I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to make but I only had 5 yards (trust me I purchased it all) so I knew whatever I decided to do I would only have one shot at it! After last week’s post I thought about creating the same top and pants using this print but opted to mix it up a little bit instead. For the top I went with what seems to be a summer favorite in the sewing community Simplicity’s Cynthia Rowley pattern 8124. I simply cut the smallest size, extended to desired length, changed the style of the sleeve and added splits to both sides. The pants of course are the Nina Ramel Collection jogger pattern and it is definitely one of my personal favorites for the summer.
Now I must say I thought using the print for both the top and pants would be a bit much but I went for it anyway. At first glance I was in shock seeing both pieces together but the more I played around with the look, the more it began to grow on me. LOLL To be honest what I love most about these pieces is they can be worn separately with other items I already have in my closet and that makes me a very happy camper! I hope you all enjoy what I’ve done here and don’t forget if you decided to give this one a go please share pics with the rest of us as we would love to see what you create! Until next time loves have a fabulous rest of the week and stay tuned for more tutorials coming up soon!
Hugs
(See pics below for specific details on sleeve and pants)
Man so my sister had me move out of the direct light for this shot and I look all nice and toasty!LOLLLL WOW that California Sun mixed with that Convertible will do it! Oh and bad lighting! LOLLL
Now if I can just get that back toasty like the front! LOLL It's kind of hard when your back is against the seat! Oh well off to the beach!
To create the sleeve I simply took the sleeve pattern piece and measured down 3 inches from the cap line, drew a line and separated the sleeve. Once I separated the sleeve I added seam allowance at the point of separation for both pieces. After that's done you sew the two pieces back together and then sew the entire sleeve closed right sides together. Once the sleeve was completely closed I added bias binding around the inside over the separating seam allowance leaving a portion open to feed the 1/2"elastic through. That's pretty much it folks!
Of course these are my favorite Nina Ramel Collection Jogger Pants! You can use any jogger pants pattern you like increase the waistband and add pockets if your pattern doesn't have this option.
I thought my favorite off the shoulder look would be fab with this sleeve style and I was right! It turned out great!
AHHHHHH Don't you just love the grass under your feet and the sun on your face! There's nothing like it!
